JICA Research & Training Programs

Every year large numbers of participants from South-East Asia, Africa, and elsewhere come to Asahikawa undertake study and research in the fields of agriculture and medicine. In addition, research and training in the fields such as education, investment & urban planning, etc., are also organized where participants are introduced to citizen run training activities.

“Maternal & Child Health Course”

“Health Administration for Regional Health Officers for African Countries”

These training courses are administered by the Asahikawa Medical University. Each year maternal & child care professionals from all over the world, and around 10 regional health officers from various African countries visit Asahikawa to study methods of reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, and countermeasures against infectious diseases.

“Participatory Irrigation Management System for Paddies for Asian Countries”

“Participatory Irrigation Management System for Paddies for African Countries”

These training courses are administered by the Taisetsu Land Improvement District in Asahikawa Higashi-Takasu. Each year around 10 participants from each of the regions visit Asahikawa to study irrigation systems and techniques.

In addition, during their stay in Asahikawa the participants enjoy home-stays and guided city tours courtesy of Asahikawa International Committee (AIC) volunteers. They also participate in AIC events where they interact with local citizens and engage in exchange activities. If you’re interested in participating in AIC events, please contact the AIC.
